JAYAPURA. Follow up on Extraordinary Events of Malnutrition in Asmat District which has caused 60 deaths during December 2017, Rumah Zakat Jayapura initiated a food aid program to help residents affected in 5 districts in Asmat District, namely Swator, Fayit, Pulau Tiga, Jetsy and Siret.
“This afternoon (16/01), the Volunteer team is preparing the groceries to be channeled to Asmat District, “said Wahyu, Branch Manager of Rumah Zakat Jayapura.
“Volunteers will leave early on Wednesday tomorrow (17/01) and bringing corned beef and rendang Superqurban, baby food and milk, “he added.
The journey that will be taken by Volunteers to Asmat District is quite long and not easy. Volunteers must board the plane from Jayapura to Timika for 1 hour, then continued by a small ferry boat to walk the river to Agats District for 12 hours. Not only get there, from Agats District, Volunteers need to continue by speedboat to visit the Impacted Malnutrition districts in Asmat.
“The distance of 5 affected districts is far apart and separated by rivers. So it is a challenge. However, we will keep working on helping the 5 districts, “said Wahyu.
“Another challenge that awaits Volunteers is the absence of an Internet network since entering Agats District, “he explained.
