SIGI (21/10) Together with the TNI, Rumah Zakat’s medical team swiftly helped evacuate broken female patients from the Torompupu mountain settlement to Palu Hospital. Remote settlements located in Bolah Papu village, Kulawi Sub-district, Sigi Regency are settlements that only have one access road which is tracing the mountainous road.
Very extreme road conditions make access to residential areas on Mount Torompupu very difficult to reach. Even landslides can occur without unpredictably.
“Landslides like this are common, but after the earthquake yesterday (28/09) landslides have become more frequent. It takes 3-5 days to be accessed again, even then if there is heavy equipment that is immediately taken down,” Pak Suhaid said, one of the villagers.
The condition of the patient’s legs that must be treated immediately and not possible to access the land route due to landslide in the previous night, the Rumah Zakat medical team swiftly offered to help evacuate. Helicopters are the only way to evacuate victims so the patient can be handled immediately.
“After tracing around more than 2 km there were 11 points that had been landslides. The search trip is not possible considering the last landslide point has a length of about 200 meters and is very steep. While the condition, landslides are still possible “said Oscar as one of Rumah Zakat team.
The journey from the mountain point to the settlement area takes 1, 5 hours using a car with an average speed of 20 km / hour, so it is estimated that the length of the trip to the safe location is about 20 KM.
Until now, after giving assistance 3 members of Rumah Zakat’s medical team had returned to Palu City while 9 other people were still trapped in the settlements on the mountain and could not return to Palu.
“Please pray to all friends, hopefully we can return to Palu soon,” said Hesti, Volunteer of the Zakat House
