MALAYSIA. Thursday (13/09) Innovation Center Director of Rumah Zakat, Syauqi Rabbani was present as a speaker in the Rountable on Waqf Event which was held by the World Bank, INCEIF-Isra in Sasana Kijang, Kuala lumpur, Malaysia.
The organizers assess Rumah Zakat as a successful institution in the management of waqf so that they are invited Rumah Zakat to this international event to convey the potential of waqf on socio-economic development, and its social contribution to effectively growing the market economy.
In his presentation, Syauqi conveyed the potential of waqf as an empowerment function in the Empowered Village of Rumah Zakat. “Waqf funds can be optimized with the construction of infrastructure in the empowered village which amounts to 1,237 villages,” he explained in front of the participants.
Furthermore, he also explained the reason the village was chosen as an implementation in optimizing waqf. According to him, solving problems in the village meant resolving 40% of the country’s problems.
To respond to this waqf potential, Rumah Zakat makes a strategy by building a unit in the management of waqf, namely the Rumah Waqf. It has 3 main focuses, namely health, agriculture and infrastructure.
“Waqf optimization phase is waqf as a charity, waqf as a productive asset, waqf as a real business sector and vital financial instruments,” he said.
Waqf as charity funds can be realized for public facilities such as the construction of water wells, or bridges, as productive assets of waqf can be optimized to build public services such as hospitals, clinics, schools and Islamic centers or agricultural land. While as a real business sector, Syauqi took the example of a case study on ‘Edelweiss Hospital’ which was successfully funded by waqf.
