PEKANBARU Riau acting governor Arsyadjuliandi Rachman declared an air-pollution emergency in the province on Monday as a thick haze caused by land and forest fires continues to blanket the area, as it has done since the beginning of September.
“Concerning the fact that in the past week, the Air Pollution Standard Index [ISPU] in Riau had stayed above 300psi, which is dangerous, we decided to declare an air-pollution emergency for the province,” the acting governor said in Pekanbaru, on Monday.
Therefore, RZ collaborated with CSF Pekanbaru, RBG Clinic Pekanbaru, and RZ Volunteer, to distribute thousand pieces of mask at some schools and boarding schools, Thursday (10/9).
These masks were distributed to help local citizens from air pollution that has hit Pekanbaru this month.
“As a social organization that concerns toward health issue, RZ has an obligation to help the local people from adverse effects caused by air pollution lately,” Fitri Yana, a coordinator of the action, said.
One of the beneficiaries of the action said that it really helpful since many people do not really care about the dangerous circumstance in Pekanbaru. ***
