BANGLADESH. The Humanitarian Team of Rumah Zakat joined in the Indonesian Humanitarian Alliance for Myanmar (AKIM) distributed food aid to Rohingya refugees residing in Bangladesh. After the previous Friday (29/09) food aid was distributed in refugee camps in Balukhali, on Saturday (30/09), distribution was conducted in Teknaf region.
“Teknaf is one of the areas in Bangladesh where houses thousands of Rohingya refugees exist,” said Herlan Wilandariansyah, Rumah Zakat Humanity Team. “In Teknaf we distributed 1,800 food packages and cooking supplies for the refugees,” he added.
When the distribution of aid, the refugees gathered and queued orderly despite their lack of food. Most of them are newly arrived refugees from Myanmar. Seen among them there are dirty and shabby children, and mothers with toddlers who look exhausted.
“Their condition is very worrying, we do have to help them in a sustainable way,” said Herlan.
The United Nations estimates that as many as 480,000 Rohingyas have fled to Bangladesh since August 25, 2017. Previously, about 300,000 Rohingyas had been in Bangladesh to save themselves.
