PROBOLINGGO.”A happy goat will be healthy, fast growing and ready to sacrifice (Qurban),” explained Fuad Saefullah (30 th). “To make goat happy, we must care for the cage well and feed them regularly,” he added.
Fuad is Village Facilitator of Rumah Zakat’s empowered village in Sepuh Gembol Village, Wonomerto Sub-district, Probolinggo District. In addition to community empowerment, Fuad is also a caretaker at the Rumah Zakat’s ranch. The father of two children lives far enough from the farm, he lives in Keraksaan District, to visit the farm, Fuad takes about an hour from his home.
Every day, Fuad is in charge of cleaning the cage and feeding the cattle. The feed should be fibrous and concentrate. The concentrated feed is usually a mixture of corn, bran or rice bran, and calcium powder.
“We feed the cattle three times a day; morning, noon and afternoon. We also clean the cage every day and give them water to drink” said Fuad. “We worked from 7 am to 4 pm. Usually every worker in charge to take care of one cage area containing 400 goats, “he explained.
Cage cleansing should be done every day, because goats are very sensitive to dirt. If the cage is dirty, they will be stressed and get sick.
“If there is a sick goat will be given antibiotics and other medications. In addition, the sick goat will be placed in the isolation cage so as not to transmit the disease to others, ” Fuad explained.
