GONOTIMUR. Facilitator of Rumah Zakat visited 3 palm sugar craftsmen houses, palm-fringing and roofs of rumbia on Monday (15/08). All three products are produced from sugar palm trees. Kolang-kaling is the fruit of palm trees and rumbia derived from the leaves. During this time the three craftsmen work on traditional production. Although not quickly stale, but improper packaging also affects the age of product quality. Another obstacle is the market was dominated by middlemen.
Istikomah, Yumri and Sirriyah have ten years become craftsmen. “The selling price of kolang-kaling drops from 10,000 to 8000 per kilo. For one kilogram of raw crude can be produced up to 30 kg.” said Yumri.
“A harvest took approximately 1 year”. Istikomah added, “Gonoharjo sugar has been made using coconut shell”.
Sirriyah who is also the mother of Yumri makes plait of rumbia. She is working on a neighbor’s rumbia that has more stock of leaves of grass. 100 woven rumbia cost Rp35.000. In one day Sirriyah can only do 15 plait of rumbia.
