LOMBOK. The frequency of earthquakes that are quite high in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara from July 29 to August 20 2018 has forced thousands of residents to evacuate and leave their homes.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 543 aftershocks from July 29 2018 with a strength of 4.0 to 7.0 SR.
Not only did thousands of people evacuate, the ongoing earthquake has left 483 people dead, 1,353 injured and 38,065 houses severely damaged.
The large and scattered number of refugees made Rumah Zakat immediately respond to the condition by sending 41 volunteers along with logistical assistance.
“In emergency response conditions like this, the main assistance needed by residents is shelter and food supply facilities. Therefore shelter and food ingredients are our main focus, “said the CEO of Rumah Zakat, Nur Efendi.
“Therefore we immediately sent 10,450 Superqurban corned beef to meet the food needs of the refugees,” Nur added.
Superqurban which is practical and ready to serve makes it a special menu in refuge, because it is not difficult to process it.
“At times like this (disaster emergency), we really need practical things. And this Superqurban is very suitable for conditions in refugee camps, “said North Lombok Regent, Dr. H. Najmul Akhyar SH. MH.
In addition to food assistance, Rumah Zakat also sent medical teams, psychosocial teams, ambulances, evacuation cars to establish emergency mosques, public kitchens, shelters and emergency schools.
“At present, we have 31 service posts in East Lombok, North Lombok and Mataram,” Nur said.
“We also have integrated service posts where in one area there are refugee posts, public kitchens, emergency clinics, emergency mosques, emergency schools and MCK. So that all the basic needs of refugees can be met in one area,” he explained.
POST-EARTH REHABILITATION AND RECONSTRUCTION
After the emergency response period is over, the next heavy task awaits all parties so that affected people can immediately get their normal life. Therefore Rumah Zakat has designed the post-earthquake rehabilitation and reconstruction program in Lombok.
“For this stage, we focus on 6 programs, namely the construction of shelters, emergency schools, mosques, health services and the provision of health fleets, providing and mentoring business capital for earthquake affected people and providing food aid,” Nur explained.
“We plan to re-send 50,000 Superqurban packages and 50,000 food aid packages to Lombok,” he added.
