SymAsia Foundation and Rumah Zakat distributes Food Aid to Covid-19 Affected Population

Bandung, August 20 2021. An uncountable amount of grief has accompanied the already 2 years Covid-19 Pandemic in Indonesia, which impact has been felt in all aspects of our lives. Since the first case was identified on March 2 2020, up to August 19 2021, a total of 3,93 million Indonesians had been infected with the virus. The economic condition of the people has also been hit by the social restrictions, or PPKM, imposed by the government.

Despite the difficult economic conditions, Indonesia sits at the top 10 most charitable countries in the world according to Charities Aid Foundation, which shows that the social empathy and humanitarian spirit among the people is still very high. Empathy and care are what we need to foster and heighten in these times of widespread unemployment and poverty.

One of the ways of social care and solidarity that we can act upon is the sharing of food with affected people. As such, Rumah Zakat along with SymAsia Foundation continues on lightening the burden of the people affected by the pandemic by launching the Food Shadaqa Program.

The SymAsia Foundation Food Shadaqa Program has been running since the 8th of August 2021. By the 19th of August, a total of 6.589 food packages, consisting of fresh meat and rice, has been distributed to 29 villages in 7 provincial areas of Indonesia. Distribution will still be done until the end of August 2021, with a target of 7.439 packages distributed.

The beneficiaries are grateful for the generous aid they received and has expressed their gratitude to SymAsia Foundation for its generosity and care in such a difficult time of this pandemic.
