NTT. Laying the first stone to build Masjid Taman Surga Meluwiting was warmly welcomed by the residents Meluwiting village Lembata Island, East Nusa Tenggara (09/06). Not only Muslims, Catholic residents in the village were also welcome the construction of Muslim worship place.
Currently Meluwiting village does not have a mosque, the closest mosque around the area is about 5 km. Lembata Island Muslims is indeed a minority, only 30% of the 125,000 residents.
A different atmosphere can be found in Meluwiting village, although Muslims there are minority but the Catholic community in the village supports the construction of mosque, residents there willing to cooperate to help the development.
Most of the people there work as farmers, so that the economy there is relatively low. This factor also becomes one of the main reasons for the lack of mosque building.
“Alhamdulillah, Yayasan Masjid Nusantara (YMN) and RZ have the opportunity to build a mosque in eastern Indonesia, namely in East Nusa Tenggara. There are a lot of new experiences and incredible story from Muslims there. Hopefully with the presence of Masjid Taman Surga Meluwiting can help the Muslims here in worship, ‘said director of YMN, Hamzah Fatdri.
