Uighur Muslim Ethnicity in Xinjiang, China are facing a humanitarian crisis. The United Nations has received reports that as many as one million Muslim Uighurs are being held for inclusion in concentration camps. In these camps they were forced to learn Chinese and to renounce their faith.
Responding to this treatment of Uighur Muslims, Rumah Zakat as an NGO which is also concerned about humanity tries to take steps to help Uighur Muslims.
“Currently, the most concrete step is to build humanitarian solidarity with the Alliance of international humanitarian agencies and NGOs,” said Murni Alit Baginda, Chief of Rumah Zakat Program Officer.
Murni added that the role of the government, in this case the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is very much needed in dealing with this condition. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is expected to make diplomatic efforts based on the principle of free and active politics to create world peace and uphold human rights.
Rumah Zakat together meet the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on December 26, 2018 to discuss the necessary action.
In addition to initiating diplomatic efforts, Rumah zakat also opens humanitarian aid and support for peace and the creation of religious freedom rights for Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang as well as Uighur refugees scattered outside China.
