LEBANON

On August 4, 2020 a 4.5 Richter scale factory explosion similar to an earthquake crushed an entire city center of Beirut, Lebanon. Almost a quarter of a million people have been made homeless and one hundred killed.

Lebanon is on the brink of economic collapse and famine, due to the combined challenges of a banking crisis and Covid-19 lockdown. Families are increasingly unable to afford basic food items and other essentials such as electricity, cooking fuel, hygiene items, medicine and water. The explosion only makes things worse.

Rumah Zakat have been working together with Ghirass, a local NGO in Beirut Lebanon, for 2 years already to provide aid for Syrian and Palestine refugees residing in Lebanon. Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rojiun. Never have we imagined since the establishment of this partnership that we would be providing aid to Lebanon citizens itself.

Rumah Zakat together with Ghirass on the ground have been moving since day 1 with evacuation and provided urgent food and medicine assistance to those in need.

Due to the explosion, the Syrian and Palestine refugees are neglected resulting in a crisis condition of lacking in food aid and warm essential this winter.
