PEKANBARU (12/12). 10 volunteers of Rumah Zakat Pekanbaru went down in a flood response that took place in Tanjung Balam Village, Kampar District, Riau Province. The flood disaster has been occurring for 4 days and the level into the water is still increasing. This caused 170 houses, schools, public facilities, rice fields / plantations and livestock to be submerged in water.
Floods began on Sunday, December 9, 2018 caused by heavy rains that flushed Riau and opened 5 sluice gates at the Koto Panjang Hydroelectric Dam. The depth of water that inundated around the residents’ housing reached 170 cm. According to residents, floods with this high happened again after the last 3 years. The trip to the flood location was taken by land route around 30 minutes from Pekanbaru City. Then the trip continued by using a pompong belonging to the residents, which was taken for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Rumah Zakat together with Volunteers channeled 200 cans superqurban corned beef and groceries to 170 families affected by the flood disaster. Distribution of aid was carried out in the aid post of Tanjung Balam Village, namely in the Mosque of Suluk, Tanjung Balam Village. This is the first aid that arrived in Tanjung Balam Village, previously there were no parties giving assistance because road access was submerged in water, and could only be reached by using pompong.
When it arrived there it was still raining heavily. Mr. Sibus, as the head of Tanjung Balam Village expressed his gratitude.
“We are very grateful for the assistance from Rumah Zakat along with friends from Volunteers who have been kind enough to alleviate the disaster that has befallen residents of Tanjung Balam Village. Hopefully Rumah Zakat and Volunteer can continue to help people in need, ”
The action began at 08.00 where Volunteers departed from Rumah Zakat Pekanbaru office, and shop for basic necessities to be taken to the affected area. At 12:10 the Volunteer team arrived at the Tanjung Balam Village relief post, the team of volunteers took a break, prayed and ate then continued with packing the basic necessities.
At 16:00 a total of 170 packages of basic food and corned beef were distributed to residents in Tanjung Balam Village. The volunteer team assisted by residents managed to distribute all packages of basic necessities and corned beef. Alhamdulillah at 17.30 the volunteer team returned home using a pompong boat and arrived back in Pekanbaru at 7:30 p.m.
“I am very happy to be able to take part in this flood response action. In the future, if there are activities from voluntters, I will come back again,” said Ahmad, one of the volunteers who took part in the action.
