There is one complaint prayer of Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam enshrined by Allah in the Qur’an. In this prayer, the Prophet complained about people diseases in addressing the Quran.
وَقَالَ الرَّسُولُ يَا رَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِي اتَّخَذُوا هَذَا الْقُرْآَنَ مَهْجُورًا
The prophet said, ” O my Lord! Lo! mine own folk make this Qur’an of no account (majura) ” (QS. Al-Furqan: 30)
The prophet in this verse is none other than Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam. He complained of his people who make the Qur’an of no account (mahjura).
Mahjura in this verse is usually translated as something that is not ignored. Ibn Kathir explains in Tafsir Al Quran Al Adhim that mahjura means will not hear and obey.
Ibn Kastir said: “Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala tells about His Prophet, Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam that he said,” O my Lord! Lo! mine own folk make this Qur’an of no account (majura) “That is because idolaters do not want to hear the Quran with full obedience and would not listen to it anyway. ”
In Surah Fushilat verse 26 described how idolaters addressing the Quran. They told their friends that do not listen to the Qur’an. Even do bustle and change the subject so as not to hear the Qur’an being recited.
Sayyid Qutb in Zhilalil Fi Quran Tafsir explains that mahjura means not listening and not learn Quran.
“Allah knows the situation,” said Sayyid Qutb, “” But it is a prayer the Prophet saying complaints and submission to God, with which he proves that he is not half-hearted in preaching. However, that’s what his people would not listen to this Qur’an and not learn about it. ”
Ibn al-Qayyim Al Jauziyah explained that mahjura is an attitudes can manifest in the form of the following five:
1. Not diligently listen
2. Not heeding halal and haram even though credible and readable
2. Not making a reference in determining the law concerning Ushuluddin (religious principles) and details
3. Do not attempt to think about and understand what God wants
4. Do not make it as a remedy for heart diseases
Let us reflect on our present condition. Although the complaint that the Prophet is the disbelievers of Quraysh, but the disease made the Qur’an as mahjura -especially enumerated by Ibn Qayyim- could have happened to us.
First, have we like to read and listen to the Quran? If related hadith about the limits recitations, have we tried to recite it one juz a day? If not, be worry we belong to the people who made the Quran as mahjura.
Second, have we tried to learn Quran? How can we know the direction from God if we do not know what it means and never meditate? Like a driver who saw so many traffic signs, but does not know what it means. Worst, he damned before reaching the destination because of ignorance.
Third, once we know God’s guidance in the Qur’an, have we followed it? Or we like Ibn al-Qayyim said, did not heed the halal haram even though we know the Qur’an has shown it.
Fourth, after personally we practice the Qur’an, have we tried to make the Quran is applied as a social system, laws and state life? It is not lighter than the previous point, but this is what will bring blessings and good today and in hereafter.
