YOGYAKARTA.In many Indonesia’s major cities or suburban areas, waste becomes one of main environmental problems that have to be solved immediately. Therefore to create a comfortable and clean environment, each people must have a high awareness on the importance of preserving environment. In addition, they have to create an effective waste management system.
Thus, to support the government and people on solving the problem, RZ implements a prime program named Waste Bank Program. This program is a part of environmental program that focuses on civilizing clean and healthy lifestyle and it is applied all ICD areas in Indonesia.
One of ICD area that has an independent waste bank is Tamanan ICD located in Nglebeng Residence, Tamanan Banguntapan Village, Yogyakarta. Last year, RZ launched and established a waste bank here for empowering local people.
In this program, the member of Waste Bank will be introduced to the various types of waste and how to sort, manage, and sell them. In addition, they are also able to earn additional income by selling waste to collector of producing valuable product through waste recycle.
Bu, the chairman of Tamanan Waste Bank, claimed that through waste bank, local people could earn monthly additional income. “Since it was established, there are many members who become more productive and innovative,” he said. ***
