PALANGKA RAYA, Sunday (09/22). This morning, Rumah Zakat Action distributed 1500 masks to residents of the Palangka Raya City. The free mask distribution is intended for residents who are exercising in the Car Free Day area at the big roundabout of Palangka Raya city.
This action is done to anticipate the effects of smoke caused by forest and land fires. “Our hope is that residents who are active outside can avoid respiratory diseases caused by smoke haze from forest and land fires,” said volunteer Rumah Zakat Action, Misran Fauzi.
He is concerned that there are still quite a lot of people who attended this Car Free Day activity without equipping themselves with self-protection from the smoke. “It’s a shame when you exercise while breathing in unhealthy air,” he said.
“Hopefully we residents can care about their health and protect themselves from the effects of this smoke. One of them is by using a mask when doing outdoor activities,” he continued.
During this distribution, team Rumah Zakat Action is assisted by the World Cleanup Day community of Palangka Raya and Deaf Friends Deaf Palangka Raya.
Ari, one of the residents who got help felt happy with receiving this mask. “Earlier I asked for one more, for the purposes of tomorrow when working later,” he explained.
