[:ID]Anda familier dengan larangan mandi malam? Konon, orang yang suka mandi malam bisa kena reumatik atau sakit sendi.

Benarkah begitu? Sejatinya, sesering apapun larangan itu diucapkan, tidak berarti itu merupakan kebenaran yang harus dipercaya.

“Itu termasuk mitos karena mandi malah tidak ada pengaruhnya terhadap reumatik dan sebagainya,” ujar Prof Dr dr Angela BM Tulaar SpKFR(K).

Prof Angela menjelaskan, mandi ketika malam hari tidak ada membuat nyeri sendi, seperti diyakini banyak orang. Tidak ada penelitian yang menunjang klaim tersebut hingga anggapan itu belum terbukti sama sekali hingga saat ini.

Sering kali alasan orang melarang mandi malam hari karena suhu air menjadi dingin, sehingga bisa membuat persendian menjadi sakit. Padahal, menurut spesialis rehabilitasi medik ini, dingin justru bagus untuk terapi sendiri yang meradang.

“Kalau malam mandi takut air dingin kan tinggal pakai air hangat, nggak masalah,” ujar dokter yang praktik di Rumah Sakit Cipto Mangunkusumo, Jakarta, ini.

Prof Angela mengatakan, air dingin sering digunakan untuk meredakan pembengkakan dan kemerahan pada sendi. Bagian yang mengalami masalah bisa dikompres dengan es untuk membuat sendi menjadi lebih baik.

“Jadi mandi malam tidak ada hubungannya ya dengan masalah sendi,” ujar Prof Angela.

People often reason that forbids bathing at night is due to the temperature of the water becomes cold during the night; therefore it causes joint pains. Although, according to this medical rehabilitation specialist, cold is actually good for self-therapy to fight body inflammations.

“If you take a bath at night and are afraid of cold water, just use warm water, no problem,” said a doctor at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta.

Prof. Angela said cold water is often used to relieve swelling and redness of the joints. The parts that are experiencing problems can be compressed with ice to make the joints better. “So a night shower has nothing to do with a joint problem,” said Prof. Angela.
